January in Cape Verde!

01/02/2012

SANTIAGO - NEW YEARS 2011!!

Everyone in Cape Verde saw in the new year in the same manner as the rest of the world – with fireworks!! This display was in Praia and don’t they look amazing! We certainly enjoyed a great new years eve, we hope you did too.

SANTIAGO - PRAIA LIBERTY RUN

On the 13th of January, the day of Freedom and a National Bank Holiday, the municipality of Praia realised the 4th Liberty Run. Even the President of Cape Verde participated and as you can see from these photos the event was a great success.

SAL - RUA VYNCKIER

This recently pedestrianised street has had a statue erected in honour of its namesake – Georges Vynckier.

SAL – WIND FARM

For those who’ve been to Sal I’m sure you’re surprised it has taken this long for a wind farm to be established. Well, now all of the wind which attracts the wind and kite surfers has been harnessed in a wind farm near Palmeira. Great news for the Island!

SAL – BURGHY

This new hamburger restaurant is located close to Café Relax and serves great food. A great substitute for a late night burger from the street van outside BCA… ;-)

SAL – PALMEIRA

The town of Palmeira in Sal is quite charming. Come and visit, have a meal at one of the restaurants and watch the men with their fishing.

SAL – SALINAS

This old salt mine on the Island of Sal is now a buzzing tourist attraction. Come and bathe in the salt pools – float the day away and come away with glowing skin. There is also a café / restaurant on site which offers toilets and showers. Spend the day here!

SAL – SANTA MARIA BARS

Santa Maria is home to two new bars! One is located in the town square and is called “Call’s” the other is beach front and has a pool! Situated just next door to Barracuda restaurant. Check them out and let us know what you think!

SAL – NEW ROAD TO HOTELS

The new road to the hotels in Santa Maria is well under way. Gone are the days of the dirt road – it’s a pleasure walking to go out for dinner these days!

SAL – NEW SQUARE IN ESPARGOS

The new square in Espargos looks fantastic – make sure you visit Espargos next time you’re in Sal.

SAL – SANTA MARIA BEACH

We know this is the main reason people love coming to Sal – just a little reminder of how wonderful it is!

SAO VICENTE – CRUISE SHIPS

Cruises bring more than 10,000 tourists to Sao Vincente. The 2012 cruise season has kicked off with the arrival of the ship “Costa Fortuna” to Sao Vincente, which brings four thousand visitors.

Information provided by the management of Porto Grande Hotel indicate that by October 2012 the Island of Sao Vicente will be receiving a total of 17 cruise ships. With the prospect of increased regular routes stopping in Sao Vicente gains in the economic sector are expected.

SAO VICENTE – PONT D'AQUA

The stunning Pont d'Aqua area of Sao Vicente is still as stunning… it’s a must on your holiday itinerary!
