Premier visits northern Santiago

According to a communiqué from the Prime Minister’s office, Neves will begin the series of visits today in the municipality of Santa Cruz, where he will preside over the unveiling of the Poilão reservoir water distribution system before meeting with local farmers, as well as teachers and students from Alfredo Silva High School in the town of Pedra Badejo. In the afternoon, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with prominent local citizens and visit the local professional training center.

On Friday, José Maria Neves will preside over the ground-breaking ceremonies of the Flamengos and Principal hydrographic basin management projects in the municipalities of São Miguel and Santa Catarina. The 630 million-escudo investment is being financed by the government. Meetings with students in São Miguel and association leaders and residents of the village of Pilão Cão are also on the agenda.

This weekend, Neves will preside over the grand opening of the Cruz Grande-Calhetona road and the electrification of Entre Picos de Reda, in Santa Catarina. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit the University of Santiago and the Engenho hydrographic basin, the construction site of Napoleão Ferndandes Secondary School, and to donate a fishing vessel to fishermen in the village of Rincão. On Sunday, Neves will meet with women from the island of Santiago in Assomada to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The premier’s series of visits will continue Tuesday, March 9, in São Lourenço dos Órgãos, São Salvador do Mundo and Santa Catarina, where he will meet with students and with the population of the village of Montanha. On Tuesday evening, the premier will preside over the unveiling of the expansion of the electricity network to the village of Pingo Chuva.

The Prime Minister will wrap up the series of visits in the municipalities of Tarrafal and São Miguel with meetings with parents of schoolchildren in Chão Bom and Achada Monte.

Neves will be accompanied on the visits by Minister of the Environment José Maria Veiga and Adjunct Secretary to the Prime Minister Humberto Brito.
