Praia parishes promote “Movement for Peace”
28/01/2010
According to those promoting these two initiatives, the Movement for Peace was idealized following some of the recent violent activity that has taken place in Cape Verde.
“Something had to spark people to wake up from this collective conformity and individual indifference, because many good people have attempted to carry out isolated actions that are worth sharing,” reads an e-mail that has been circulating on the Internet.
In another e-mail, Pró-Praia’s Alcides de Oliveira explains that the association’s plans to promote a “Movement for Peace” are moving forward with positive results. “Together, we will embrace this initiative and remain vigilant so that things may change for the better,” he affirms, while stressing that the initiative is a movement and not merely a march. “As such, what we want is an action more profound and lasting in nature, able to move people’s sensibilities,” he concludes.
The Movement for Peace, Solidarity and Healthy Living will take place in Praia over the course of one week, in an initial phase, between February 1 and 5. During that week, messages will be passed o through the media, and on the last day, all those interested will be invited to gather at the Escola Grande Square on the Plateau.
